Goodbye Mr. Lab Coat

Goodbye Mr. Lab Coat from Atomic Shadow on Vimeo.

This video marks the final appearance of the personae that I called Mr. Lab Coat. Many factors have brought me to the point of killing him off. When I first constructed my 50s Sci Fi Command Center I felt like is was sort of staking out a place in electronic music that was not very crowded. The lab coat seemed a natural part of the vibe. Over the last year I have seen an increase in the number of people using goggles and lab coats in their videos. So I guess the idea was not all that original in the first place. I have had many people tell me that they did the same thing years ago.

So I am putting the lab coat down.

To be honest it has been sort of depressing this month as I am near the one year mark of the death of my best friend and have recently learned of the passing of another pal. Is this also the death of Atomic Shadow? Possibly.

I will have to what happens next. Thanks for watching.

I was saddened to learn that my synth buddy Joe Provede has passed away. Joe went by the internet pseudonym JP Video.

He was once the keyboard player for Wayne (now Jayne) County and the Caucasians. Over the years he was active making electronic music, graphic arts and video production. You can find about 90 videos that he made on YouTube on the JP Video Channel, his user name was Stockhausen. Many of them are videos that he made on his travels and they give you a sense of what a wild and crazy guy he was. He had moved from Jersey to Cambodia about a year ago and loved it there.

We were both big fans of early electronic music and chatted about it via Skype on a number of occasions. Joe said that my Atomic Shadow work sounded like a giant snake was sneaking up on someone in a movie. So I made the following piece with him in mind.

    Atomic Shadow

Uses a bewildering variety of synthesizers, effects and vintage electronic testing instruments to generate sonic sculptures. A modern take on the early days of electronic music.
