I Need The Machines- Excerpt

8/26/2012

Well there is another track finished. I am not certain that this will be the final title when it is on the album. It has already changed three times. This is a short selection from the track that runs to 15 minutes in it's entirety.

I heard a lecture about the entropy that is endemic in a modern city and it started me thinking about how much we rely on machines.

If you live in a place like Arizona it might not be possible to do so for much of the year if not for mechanical cooling. The sounds of machines are all around most of us in our daily lives as background noise. In this piece there were many recordings of machines that were manipulated and abused with effects to create the final piece. Fans, pumps, open relays, squeeking belts and groaning motors are the order of the day here. There is also some Modular activity on the track. I used some of that gear to process some of the recordings.

I Sleep On Magnets- Excerpt

I have been working on tracks for the next album. This is an excerpt from a much longer piece entitled "I Sleep On Magnets". This has taken a long time to edit all of the sounds together. Various combinations of  modules, effects, vintage generators, tape machines... phew! You name it. It's on this piece at some point. The inspiration has to do with how our bodies and technology interact, in a round about way.

    Atomic Shadow

Uses a bewildering variety of synthesizers, effects and vintage electronic testing instruments to generate sonic sculptures. A modern take on the early days of electronic music.
