The World Of Tomorrow from Atomic Shadow on Vimeo.
The month of November has come and gone in a blur. In addition to releasing the compilation album Self Erecting Structures, work is progressing on the next full length album. Somehow time was located to film the video above. The World Of Tomorrow video marks the first brief appearance of the new Atomic Shadow uniform. It is actually so brief that you can't even tell what it is.
The story behind the uniform is interesting because it involves one of my favorite people on the planet, Eric at STG Soundlabs. You know him as Suit And Tie Guy. We were chatting on the phone one Sunday evening in October and I was whining about seeing yet another video, of another guy (who was not Atomic Shadow) in a lab coat, standing in front of some small pile of gear, twisting knobs and making noise. I thought I was being so original when I started this, but I guess not. I did not invent the lab coat and goggles after all. Eric had said something earlier on FaceBook about wanting sharks with lasers on their heads. I mentioned that, he said something back about a hollowed out volcano and I answered that my gear looks like it belongs in a hollowed out volcano. As I sat letting that swirl around in my head Eric said..."Nehru Jacket!"

"Yes! Perfect!"
He also suggested an atom symbol medallion as the discussion went forward. But at one point it sort of wound down as he observed, "Good luck finding a Nehru jacket."
This is where we would cue up the diabolical laughter. "Dude! My wife is a professional seamstress! She can make anything!"
And lo, it is true. Mrs. Shadow made the jacket from some very nice silk fabric and secured the supplies to make two more.

So I will be forever in Mr. Suit's debt for the inspiration for Atomic Shadows new look. Thanks Eric.
The video was filmed in three passes. One camera angle as the modular equipment was manipulated in real time. A second camera angle as one of the sine wave oscillators was overdubbed. A third section of video was shot separately with the camera doing a fly through of the Command Center. On one of the monitors there are some scenes from the classic Soviet era Sci Fi film Planeta Bur.
The resulting footage was shipped off to The Emerald Isle where Irish Film maker (and part time Leprechaun impersonator) Micky Dodds cut the whole thing together. I think that he captured the spirit of the piece perfectly. Just as my synth patch and performance perfectly reflected my coming down with the flu. Thanks Micky. Great job.
